About Charred-Art (Lichtenberg Fractal Burning)

Charred-Art objects are created by burning the surface of unfinished wood with a homemade Lichtenberg Burning Machine...a process sometimes referred to as Fractal Burning.  We have built 3 Lichtenberg units using easy-to-obtain electrical components.  Our two primary burners are powered by microwave oven transformers. These transformers are 1,000 and 1,200 watts, which put out 10,000 to 12,000 volts.  Those units require a power output regulator to control the voltage.  For this we use a VARIAC 20 amp. autotransformer.  Our other burner is powered by a 12,000 volt neon sign transformer.
